Complete ESO Fishing & Gold-Making Guide

Welcome to this guide on one of my favorite gold-making methods in The Elder Scrolls Online: fishing! It’s accessible at any level, requires no DLCs, and offers a straightforward path to earning gold. In this section, we’ll cover how to make the most out of fishing by discussing where to fish, which consumables to use, and how to maximize profit through perfect roe. Let’s dive in!

Why Fishing is Great for Gold

Fishing can be done at any level, requires minimal gear, and the main goal is to farm perfect roe. Perfect roe is a rare golden ingredient obtained from filleting certain fish, and it’s used for high-demand, endgame consumables such as the Psijic Ambrosia. Selling perfect roe on guild traders can net you a significant profit. In some cases, it may even be sold out in certain guild stores, indicating high demand and potentially high prices.

Best Fishing Locations & DLC Options

No DLC Required: Islands like Betnikh are perfect for new players without DLCs. Smaller zones often have fewer enemies, letting you fish uninterrupted.

Artaeum & Summerset (DLC): These zones have specific drops: Artaeum can yield Waterlogged Psijic Satchels, which may contain valuable recipes like the Artaeum Pickled Fish Bowl or Artaeum Takeaway Broth. Summerset offers a rare Pyandonean Motif from fishing, which can sell at a high price on the guild traders because it’s only obtainable via fishing.

Consumables & Bait

Artaeum Pickled Fish Bowl: Increases your chance to catch rare fish (which cannot be turned into perfect roe, but do quick-sell for gold). However, this consumable requires expensive clam gall. Evaluate whether the added fish frequency justifies the cost.

Hissmir Fish-Eye Rye: Improves visibility of fishing holes. Helpful for new players or for night/dark environments, but may be optional once you know your usual fishing routes.

Bait Type: Use saltwater bait for oceans, lake bait for lakes, etc. Bait is fairly cheap and can be purchased from guild traders or found by killing various creatures.

Champion Points

Rationer & Angler’s Instincts (Blue CP): Increases your chance to catch higher quality fish, though this does not directly impact your odds of obtaining perfect roe. Higher quality fish can be sold quickly for modest gold, but remember, our primary target is still perfect roe.

Selling or Using Perfect Roe

Perfect roe can craft items like Psijic Ambrosia and Smoked Bear Haunch, both highly sought after for experience gains and endgame food buffs. Decide whether to: Sell Perfect Roe Directly: Simple and often profitable, especially if market supply is low. Craft Consumables: Turning roe into Psijic Ambrosia (yields 4 units) may be profitable if Ambrosia prices are high. Always check your local guild traders to see whether raw roe or crafted consumables yield better margins.

Final Fishing Tips

- Fishing with friends can increase your chance for rare fish, but also may require searching for new holes more frequently.
- If you struggle to locate fishing spots, consider add-ons (PC) or rely on visual clues like water splashes. - Remember that perfect roe is your big-ticket item. Focus on consistent fishing, and the gold will flow in over time.
